Shedding New Light on Jewish Traditions

JDAIM (Inclusion) Shabbat Service & Speaker - Beyond Productivity: How Shabbat Values Underscore Disability Justice Principles

Join us in celebrating JDAIM (Jewish Disability Awareness & Inclusion Month) with a guest speaker, Rabbi Julia Watts Belser, Associate Professor of Jewish Studies, Georgetown University.  This session draws the voices of disability culture leaders into conversation with Jewish tradition to show how the practice of Shabbat can offer us an opportunity to counter the relentless pressures we face to measure our worth on the basis of our work.  Together, we’ll explore how tapping into Jewish wisdom can help us challenge ableism and embrace the spiritual and political insights of disability movements.

Please note the earlier start time of 7:00 pm.

Belser is a rabbi and a longtime advocate for disability and gender justice, She writes queer feminist Jewish theology and brings disability arts and culture into conversation with Jewish tradition.
