Shabbat Shalom - we look forward to connecting this and every week @ Or Hadash

Or Hadash Welcomes You!

Or Hadash: A Reconstructionist Congregation, is a progressive, engaging and creative community that welcomes people of all backgrounds, including interfaith families, LGBTQ individuals, as well as people of all races, ethnicities and disabilities. We strive to make Judaism meaningful through study, prayer, cultural, musical and other artistic expression. Social action and acts of tikkun olam are also important ways to engage at Or Hadash. We want all people to know that they are completely welcome and that they can quickly become an integral part of our friendly community.

Minyan Hadash

March 30, 2020 - 8:30am

Minyan Hadash: A new way to connect @ OH!

At this moment at which we are distancing ourselves physically. it is more important than ever that we create and embrace opportunities to connect socially with one another. It is with this kavannah (intention), that I am thrilled to invite each and every member of our community to a new experiment: MINYAN HADASH!

So, you ask, what then is Minyan Hadash? It's an online gathering, just for Or Hadash members. Each morning, we will gather for a half-hour, from 8:30-9:00am. We will check in with one another and share our oys & joys, Rabbi Alanna will give a brief teaching. My hope is that Or Hadash members will take turns leading a brief (7-15 minute) activity or teaching. You can sign up here to bring an offering to the community. It could be yoga, tai chi or stretching, a favorite story, Jewish text, or Torah study, an art or creative writing prompt, a guided meditation... the sky is the limit!

Important Messages from OH President and Rabbi

Hevre,

Following up on the email announcement we sent yesterday afternoon, Governor Wolf has announced a COVID-19 mitigation effort for Montgomery County to reduce the spread of the virus. In compliance with the Wolf Administration’s guidance, Or Hadash will cancel all in-person group meetings, events and school activities at least for the next 14 days.

Groups, committees and others who typically plan to meet at Or Hadash during this time should consider meeting virtually rather than in person; using Zoom, Skype or some other web platform.

Please stay tuned as we are coming up with a variety of ways to support each other and celebrate Shabbat together. To quote our Reconstructionist colleague in Seattle, Rabbi David Basior, “we cancel events – not community.” Please watch your email and phones over the next several days for contact from our wonderful Chesed (caring committee) Co-Chairs, Carolyn Savitzky and Edith Lane. And we also encourage you to join our public Facebook page if you haven't already done so: https://www.facebook.com/OrHadashPA/ as well as our member’s only space: https://www.facebook.com/groups/136646944182/, as they will also be methods of disseminating information in the coming weeks.
