Hesed - Support

In one sense, the Hesed (Caring) Committee encompasses the entire Or Hadash community, who work together to offer emotional support and practical help to fellow congregants experiencing difficult times such as illness, bereavement, and childbirth. The committee’s actual members field requests for meals, transportation, or shopping, as well as for a leader for the minyan [prayer service] when a congregant is observing shiva for a deceased family member. These requests are then distributed to other community members who have indicated their willingness to help in specific ways.
