General congregational events

Summer Mussar

July 14, 2020 - 7:00pm

Summer Mussar will be taking place for the tenth consecutive year at Or Hadash. These biweekly sessions are intended to be both maintenance for ongoing Mussar students as well as an introduction to Mussar for new students. This summer we will again be studying Alan Morinis’ With Heart in Mind, a book which describes many methods for changing our behavior to reflect a more mindful consideration of others. For those who wish to read ahead, we will start with Chapter 39 where we left off last summer and cover two chapters each class. The book is available from amazon.com for about $16 (Kindle) and $19 (paperback).

Antiracism Reading & Discussion Group

July 22, 2020 - 7:30pm

Or Hadash is offering an Antiracism Study Group for congregants and friends (yes, non-congregants can participate) focused on Ibram X. Kendi's book How to be an Antiracist. Now more than ever, it is important to educate ourselves on this very important and timely topic so that we can be better allies and activists for racial equality, and doing it in community can enrich the experience. The group will meet every three weeks and focus on two chapters at each meeting. Although the group has already met once, it's not too late to join, but please order the book as soon as possible so you can be prepared for the next meeting.

Film Discussion of "Crip Camp"

July 25, 2020 - 7:30pm

Rabbi Alanna will start the event with Havdallah and then turn things over to Wendy Elliott-Vandivier, Chair of the Inclusion Committee and a long-time disability advocate/activist, for a discussion of the film "Crip Camp".
